I have two hits from the USA looking for crap catchers.
Can anyone shed any light on what a crap catcher is?

Well I remember Crud Catchers from my MTB days - they were a clip on mudguard.
Another thing that might fit the description is the things that horse buggy driver hang out the back of horses to keep their poop off the streets. (Have a look around Bruges if you don't believe me)
